The Proteas have stamped their T20 authority on Zimbabwe early as they claimed a 34-run victory at Buffalo Park in the 1st of 3 T20 internationals against the neighbours.

Electing to bat first, the Proteas racked up a respectable 160 for 6 in the allotted 20 overs with contributions of 56 from debutante Rassie van der Dussen, 39 runs from David Miller and a further 34 runs from the bat of skipper Faf du Plessis.

The Zimbabweans then took to the crease and despite promising signs at times, they could not seem to build any partnerships and were subsequently bowled out for 126 runs in the 18th over.

For the Proteas, wrist spinner Imran Tahir shined yet again picking up a stellar 5 wickets for only 23 runs earning him the man of the match accolade.

"I don't take things for granted, every opportunity I get to play for South Africa is an absolute honour and I want to be really up for it."

"I am really pleased that it came out the way I wanted, I held the team and how captain and coach wanted to bowl, I'm putting in a lot of hard work so I'm really pleased with myself," Tahir added.

The win takes the Proteas 1-0 up in the 3-match series and they will be looking to seal a series victory this Friday when these sides clash at Senwes Park in Potchefstroom.
