Despite winning their 5 match One Day International series against Sri-Lanka by 3 games to 2, after leading 3-0, Protea stand-in captain Quinton de Kock has described it as a bitter sweet victory.

The visitors bounced back from a dismal test performance to win their first 3 ODI's and secure a series victory with an unassailable 3-0 lead.

The final 2 matches of the series however went the way of the home side following poor performances by Ottis Gibson's men compounded by a weather affected 4rd ODI and a batting collapse in the final ODI.

Although the Proteas would have loved their ODI story on the sub-continent to end differently, de Kock remains upbeat about their series victory.

"Coming to Sri-Lanka on the sub-continent its difficult to win a series, as we saw in the test matches, it was never easy for us."

"Coming into the ODI's on a down and just winning the series in the first 3 games pleases us, it was never easy initially but we did it," de Kock added.

The Proteas now drop down to fourth place on the ICC rankings behind below New Zealand as they a 5-0 series win was their only hope of remaining at number 3.

The side now turn their attention to the stand alone T20 International taking place on Tuesday.
