Opportunity for young Proteas─── ADRIAN BOTHA 11:00 Wed, 08 Aug 2018
With an unassailable 3-0 One Day International lead over Sri-Lanka in their 5 match series, the Proteas are expected to give many of their younger, inexperienced squad members an opportunity to sharpen their skills on the playing field.
With the ODI series in the bag, the youngsters will have a considerably less pressure to deal with on the field come the 4th ODI.
Coach Ottis Gibson in his turn believes regardless of what team may take the field, the Proteas have the depth and talent to claim a 5-0 series whitewash.
Gibson has however indicated that although a 5-0 whitewash would be a great achievement, they have to use opportunities such as these to increase squad depth and experience ahead of next year's cricket world cup.
"When we left home we didn't expect that we would win 5-0 but we have the opportunity and I can assure you that we will try to but we still have our priorities."
"Our priorities are a lot higher than winning 5-0 with in terms of seeing other players and giving other players opportunities," Gibson said.
The Proteas face Sri Lanka in the 4th ODI on Wednesday morning at 11:00 in Pallekele.
