Saints dominate FS Cricket Awards─── MORGAN PIEK 10:18 Fri, 01 Jun 2018
Saint Andrew's School in Bloemfontein created history on Thursday evening by dominating the annual Free State Cricket Awards.
Saints, who won the National Schools T20 Challenge in Pretoria earlier in the year, boast with a total of five awards.
Calvin Flanegan was named as the U17 Player of the Year, while the 1st XI captain, Garnett Tarr, was named as the U19 Player of the Year and Gregg Hobson was named as the Coach of the Year.
Saints also received the Best Performing Team of the Year Awards, however, the cherry on the cake was without a doubt being honoured with Free State Cricket's highest accolade, the President’s Award.
The seamer Gerald Coetzee and the spinner, Pheko Moletsane, also received special recognition.
The Saints old boy, Sean Whitehead, was named as the Academy Player of the Year.
Hobson told OFM Sport that it has been a really special year for the school's cricket.
“The President’s Award and the Team of the Year Award is quite a big thing.
“It’s probably the first time that a schools’ team has dominated the awards. It’s been a special year, no doubt.”
It is the first time in the history of Free State Cricket that a school has received the President’s Award.
Earlier in the week, Saints were also awarded the highly coveted blue chips status by Cricket South Africa.
