Roads in the vicinity of the Toyota Stadium will be closed on Saturday (23/11) for the Carling Knockout Cup final between Magesi FC and Mamelodi Sundowns.

Motorists and pedestrians are advised to be patient and cooperate with traffic and the police.

Until the game is over, the following access roads will be closed; Att Horak Avenue to First Avenue and Att Horak Avenue to Betogers Avenue. The game will start at 18:00.

“Motorists are cautioned that vehicles parked on pavements and illegal spaces or in front of the emergency gates will be towed away,” said Mangaung Metro spokesperson, Qondile Khedama.

‘Support, enthusiasm shown by sports fanatics unmatched’

“Due to large crowds expected, fans are encouraged to get to the stadium early. The metro’s law enforcement will be working closely with the police to monitor and regulate the smooth flow of traffic.”

Residents should use alternative routes from 05:00 in the morning due to athletics and a cricket match taking place at the Mangaung Oval, he said.

“The support and enthusiasm shown by sports fanatics in the city has been unmatched,” said Mangaung Metro executive mayor, Gregory Nthatisi. “It makes Mangaung a true sports mecca where athletes, fans, and spectators come together to celebrate the spirit of competition and mutual love for the game.

“The Carling Knockout Cup finals will undoubtedly be a showcase of skill, passion, and community spirit, and we are honoured to be entrusted with this responsibility.

“We look forward to welcoming teams, supporters, and enthusiasts to Mangaung for an unforgettable sporting spectacle, he said.

OFM News reported how to ensure the safety of your vehicle:

• Become familiar with your route before embarking on your trip.

• Always be vigilant, and observe the area, if you notice something suspicious when parking your vehicle, report it to centre management or security.

• Avoid parking your vehicle where there are no security officers or car guards.

• Lock your doors at all times, even while driving, and make sure all windows are up when leaving your vehicle.

• Avoid displaying valuables such as a handbag, briefcase, cell phone, or laptop bag in full view on the seats, rather lock it in the boot of your vehicle.

If you are planning on drinking, the police advise you to not overindulge, and arrange alternative transport. Even after what you may think is a “small drink” you could be over the limit. Don’t drink and drive.
