#GBV won’t be tolerated: North West SAPS | News Article

North West Provincial Police Commissioner Sello Kwena has assured the community that acts of Gender Based Violence (GBV) and any form of abuse won’t be tolerated - whether perpetrated by members of the public or the South African Police Service.

This follows after Constable Clayson Madupe (aged 36) – who is stationed at the Mogwase police station - was arrested on Thursday for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend.

According to police spokesperson Sabata Mokgwabone, he is expected to appear in the Mogwase Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

At the time of the arrest, he was on bail consequent to the arrest by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) and appearance before the court in January 2022, for attempted murder, kidnapping and rape. This, after he allegedly knocked down a woman with a car, kidnapped and ultimately raped her at Welgevaal village near Mogwase.

The accused is due to reappear in court on these cases on Tuesday, 6 September 2022. His departmental hearing is ongoing.

The Provincial Commissioner expressed his disapproval of the member’s conduct which he said is unacceptable and unethical. He said further that no special treatment will be given to the member to ensure that justice is served.
