#Coronavirus: Numsa weighs in on COVID19 as positive cases escalate   | News Article

Trade union NUMSA has weighed in on the coronavirus pandemic and the shortage of protective gear for health professionals.

The union says it stands in solidarity with all healthcare workers in the country and demands that the government intervenes to ensure that they have adequate resources and protective clothing.

The union has further stated that the government must compel sectors producing masks, testing kits, gloves, ventilators and other necessities to fast-track production and make up for the shortages in equipment.

Numsa's support for health workers in the country comes amidst legal action by NEHAWU in an attempt to compel the Health Department to provide personal protective equipment (PPE) for health workers amid the spread of the Coronavirus.

This as the number of deaths in the country has increased to nine and the number of positive cases are now at 1 585.

OFM News earlier reported that Health Minister Zweli Mkhize last night confirmed this is an increase of 80 cases since the previous report.

He outlined in a statement that Gauteng remains the epicentre followed by the Western Cape, KwaZulu-Natal and the Free State, which has since recorded its second COVID-19 related death.
