Nxangisa vows to soon deliver on Maluti-A-Phofung #WaterCrisis | News Article

The Free State Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) says residents in Maluti-A-Phofung can expect to have running tap water as of next week.

MEC Thembeni Nxangisa says the province has, together with the national department, been working hand-in-hand to deliver on the promises made to the residents.

Nxangisa adds they can now safely announce that residents shall have running clean water as of April 7.

The cash-strapped municipality earlier this year made national headlines as residents were up in arms over a lack of water and staged a shutdown, which saw schools and businesses in the area closed for weeks.

Residents in this area stated that they have been without water for many years, and their plight had seemingly fallen on deaf ears.

Following the shutdown, Water and Sanitation Minister Lindiwe Sisulu pledged R220 million to address the water crisis in the area.

Nganxisa confirms a number of water projects are nearing completion and that the Fika-Patso dam's water levels are on the rise.
