CUT lends helping hand during #Covid19 | News Article

The Central University of Technology in the Free State (CUT) has pledged a grant of R1 million to assist with research and innovations of coronavirus medical needs.

The university’s Vice Chancellor, Henk de Jager, says this is proof of their commitment to work together in solidarity and unity to restrain the spread of the virus and reduce the risk related to the community transmission phase.

De Jager says one of his masters students in Health Sciences is also a part of a team of universities and private companies helping with research. He says Mohapi Attela is part of the team manufacturing hand sanitisers to assist the government. CUT is also providing this team with one thousand 500-ml bottles required for the hand sanitising liquid. It is being prepared for the Free State Department of Education.

He says they are also manufacturing masks for non-invasive ventilation for use by coronavirus patients. He says the hospital equipment, including oxygen connectors, splitters, personal protective equipment (PPE), and non-invasive ventilation masks are currently being manufactured to reduce the spread of the virus at hospitals.
