Attack uncalled for - EFF─── LUCKY NKUYANE 10:37 Sun, 23 Feb 2020
The EFF member who was reportedly assaulted by men alleged to be security personnel at the North West Legislature, has lashed out at provincial speaker Sussana Dantjie.
Fikile Oortman says the attack on other EFF members, including provincial chairman Shakes Botswe, was uncalled for.
The incident took place during the State of the Province Address (Sopa) by Premier Job Mokgoro.
Meanwhile, a case of assault was registered with the Mmabatho Police Station on Friday following the incident outside the legislature.
Oortman, who claims his nose was broken in the scuffle, says he and other members opened the case on the same day of the incident.
On Friday, Dantjie also called for an investigation into the violence that erupted outside the legislature. Dantjie has instructed the Secretary to the Legislature to investigate the matter and give a report within 7 days.
The guards were also seen trying to intimidate journalists who were covering the attack on the EFF.
