MAP-Water says residents need not be worried | News Article

Maluti-A-Phofung (MAP) Water in Qwaqwa in the Free State says residents need not worry, after a video on social media showed staff releasing water from a pipe.

Mpho Mabena, the spokesperson for Maluti-A-Phofung Water, says the video is misleading to residents and the Free State in general. Mabena says the video was taken when repairs were done to a 700-meter-long pipe that transports water from the Fikapatso Dam to the local areas.

Residents have accused the municipality of wasting water after the area is experiencing a water crisis.

Mabena says the National Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) has sent administrators in the municipality to assist in managing the water draught situation. She further adds that if residents have any concerns they must not resort to violent protests. She urges residents to submit concerns to the municipality, the human rights commission and or the public protector’s office. Mabena says they are doing all that they can to ensure that residents receive water by making use of Jojo tanks. She further asks that residents remain patient until the water crisis is resolved.
