Department concerned after learner was stabbed to death outside NW school─── 13:13 Sat, 18 Jan 2020
The North West Department of Education says it is saddened by the death of a Grade 9 pupil at Kopanelo Secondary School in Atamelang near Delareyville in the province.
Katlego Lesagae was stabbed to death by a 17-year-old girl with an unknown object outside the school on Friday morning, 17 January. According to the department's spokesperson, Elias Malindi, learners are not safe in and outside of schools. He says a plan should be outlined to combat violence in communities.
OFM News previously reported that according to police spokesperson Adele Myburgh, Lesagae was rushed to a local clinic but was pronounced dead on arrival. Myburgh added that it is alleged that the suspect was waiting for Lesagae at the bus stop.
The suspect is expected to appear before the Atamelang Magistrate's Court on Monday, 20 January 2020.
