Free State police have confirmed the death of a man involved in a fatal accident between a motorcycle and his light motor vehicle on Raymond Mhlaba Road in Bloemfontein last Tuesday 3 December.

Police spokesperson, Motantsi Makhele, says the man who has since been identified as the 32-year-old driver, Itumeleng Abram Ntechane, was found hanging.

Ntechane, driving a green Mazda 323, and the 38-year-old victim, who was travelling in the south lane with his daughter, allegedly collided when the deceased attempted to make a u-turn into the north lane on his motorcycle. His daughter was taken to a local hospital in Bloemfontein by the Emergency Medical Services (EMS). Makhele would not comment on whether Ntechane took his life for fear of prosecution because he did not have a valid driver's licence.

"The Investigating officer visited the State Mortuary and it was confirmed that he was found hanging," Makhele says. He further adds that the Inquest docket was opened at Mangaung Police Station. According to an eyewitness, Ntechane, who had three female occupants, was also taken to a local hospital by ER24 paramedics. The witness added three ER24 ambulances and one Free State Emergency Medical Services (EMS) ambulance attended to the scene at around 07:45. Makhele said the police at Navalsig Police Station received a call reporting an accident on Raymond Mhlaba Road, and a patrol vehicle was dispatched to attend to the complaint.
