Robber shot at botched NC supermarket robbery | News Article

A knife-wielding man (30) was shot and arrested by the Port Nolloth police in the Northern Cape in the Namakwa region on Monday morning 9 December during a botched robbery.

Police spokesperson, Mohale Ramatseba, tells OFM News that at about 6 am the man and his accomplices, armed with knives, stormed a supermarket immediately after opening and demanded money from the staff. He says during that time the safe could not open and the local police were alerted. On arrival, one of the robbers tried to stab a police officer. He was shot in the shoulder.

He adds that the wounded suspect tried to flee but was arrested and is currently receiving medical treatment under police guard at Springbok Hospital. Ramatseba further adds that the second man managed to flee the scene but the police have subsequently launched a manhunt.

He says nothing was taken by robbers and the one who was shot will appear before the Port Nolloth Magistrate's Court as soon as he has recovered. Ramatseba says the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has since been notified about the incident in order to conduct their own independent investigations.

"Anyone with information is kindly requested to contact the Station Commander of Port Nolloth, Lt.Col. Patrick Moyo, at 082-495-5251. The very information will be treated with the strictest confidence," he adds. Ramatseba says the police investigation into the matter continues.
