Flood watch, warning issued for Gauteng, North West, and Free State─── 11:23 Thu, 05 Dec 2019
Residents of Central South Africa are warned to keep their raincoats close as heavy rain is expected that could even lead to localised flash-flooding in parts of South Africa.
South African Weather Services’ spokesperson in Bloemfontein, Tonie Rossouw, says rain will continue in the North West and Northern Cape on Thursday and Friday. Meanwhile, the Free State can also expect some rain on Friday 6 December, and again Sunday night into Monday morning and Tuesday next week.
He added that the cloudy weather has caused unexpected cool conditions, however, towards next week the temperatures will increase. Rossouw warns residents about the localised flood warning. He says motorists should be cautious and travel safely at lower lying bridges and gravel roads as they might be flooded.
OFM News recently reported that the Department of Health in North West has confirmed that the Thusong/General De La Rey Hospital in Lichtenburg has been flooded as a result of heavy rain in the province. The areas between Lichtenberg and Mahikeng experienced heavy rains earlier this week.
