Two killed in NW head-on collision on Sunday | News Article

Two more people have lost their lives on South Africa’s roads this weekend, bringing the tally to at least four people killed in car accidents on Sunday alone.

The latest of these accidents occurred on the R556 between Brits and Sun City in the North West on Sunday afternoon, 10 November 2019, as two light motor vehicles crashed head-on, killing two adults who were travelling in a red Volkswagen, on impact.

ER24’s Ross Campbell reports the second unidentified vehicle involved was found by emergency medical personnel engulfed in flames, some distance from the R556 road. The occupants of the latter vehicle are believed to have been ejected from the vehicle on impact, leaving one man in a critical condition and the other with what Campbell describes as serious injuries. The man in a critical condition was airlifted to a private hospital in Brits for treatment, while the other was transported to a provincial hospital in Rustenburg. All the relevant authorities, including police, were present at the scene.

The accident outside Brits comes nearly a day after a 30-year-old woman died after she collided with a truck on the R54 outside Potchefstroom in the North West. The driver of the truck in the accident was left unharmed.

Elsewhere in the country, two people were killed in an accident in the North of Durban in KwaZulu-Natal as a minibus taxi allegedly collided head-on with a light delivery vehicle/van.
