The Free State, North West, and Northern Cape municipalities will receive portions of land.
The minister of Public Works and Infrastructure, Patricia de Lille, says they are committed to land reform and distribution with more than 14 000 hectares of state-owned land held by her department. She says she approves of the transferring of well-located land for the development of much-needed human settlements in the country.
Free State’s Kopanong, Letsemeng, and Mangaung Municipalities will receive 3 portions of land, Northern Cape’s Dawid Kruiper, Ga-Segonyana, and Kgatelopele Municipalities will receive 23 portions, and the North West’s Madibeng and Mahikeng municipalities will also receive 3 portions of the 167 portions of land De Lille will release. De Lille further says this will enable the government to respond to urbanisation, integrate cities and reverse the legacy of apartheid’s spatial planning by building human settlements on well-located land.
