The Free State Department of Economic, Small Business Development, Tourism, and Environmental Affairs is all geared up for the biggest Hiking Heritage Extravaganza set to take place in the Golden Gate area this coming weekend.

The upcoming event, set to be attended by hundreds of tourists across the country, is part of Tourism Month’s annual celebrations that focuses on the importance of tourism to the provincial and national economy, job creation, and domestic travel in South Africa.

Annually the month of September is celebrated as tourism and heritage month, to promote cultural diversity and get citizens to travel their own country and be ambassadors of their own provinces. It is this year celebrated under the theme “Tourism and jobs, better future for all”. Departmental spokesperson, Kgotso Tau, tell OFM News their aim is to ensure that tourism can contribute to the GDP, the economy of the province, and create the much-needed jobs.

He adds that the Free State does not only have an abundance of natural beauty such as the mountains, rivers and beautiful landscapes but could afford tourists an opportunity to relax, reconnect with nature and press recharge buttons.
