Foreign-owned businesses targeted in NC─── 09:41 Wed, 11 Sep 2019
Violent xenophobic attacks have seemingly hit Central South Africa.
On Tuesday night, attacks against foreigners reigned supreme in Ritchie in the Northern Cape, as it is alleged by the community that youngsters took the opportunity to loot the shops of foreign nationals. They also burned a community hall in Phelindaba, Ritchie.
The police were forced to shoot rubber bullets as they tried to calm the situation down. This came after residents barricaded roads with rocks and burning tyres, starting Monday, to show their dissatisfaction over the appointment of sub-contractors involved in a provincial road renovation, allegedly worth R49 million.
