Students left stranded by NW college | News Article

College students are furious after being left stranded midway through their academic studies following a decision to shut down its campus in Klerksdorp in the North West.

At least 18 students, some who study part-time, claim that Damelin College’s management abruptly decided to close the college just months after it opened its doors. According to students, this decision was taken without proper communication and any consideration for them.

One of the disgruntled students at the college, Thabo Ntsebe, tells OFM News campus management informed them that the head office had made a call to close down the college at the end of this month. Another student who did not want to be named tells OFM News that no valid reason was given. OFM News sent detailed questions to the college, but they remained unanswered.

OFM News understands that lecturers have already been served with notice of termination letters and have been ordered to return the college’s property. The student says this doesn't sit well and feels like they have been robbed because the college is not allowing them to complete their respective courses. The student says they are only left with two modules and it would only take three months to complete.

Ntsebe further says the management offered alternatives such as to relocate and study further with the college in their Braamfontein or Vanderbijlpark campuses in Gauteng or make use of their online learning platform. He says due to serious personal commitments he cannot move to other campuses.
