The North West MEC of Health, Madoda Sambatha, yesterday briefed the media on cases of medical negligence and the latest developments in the department.

Sambatha shared that the reports that have been doing rounds that the department owes R4 billion on medical negligence, is not true as his department does not owe such amount. Since becoming the MEC in December 2018, Sambatha said that he never rested on unearthing all the problems in the health department, holding managers accountable and providing solutions to health service delivery challenges in the entire province.

He stated that renovations are underway at the Tshepong Hospital in Klerksdorp in order to address problems of medical negligence and research teams are deployed to all nine provinces in order to curb medical negligence. Furthermore, Sambatha stated that his department aims to promote living a healthy lifestyle to residents in the North West.
