Code of conduct signed for by-election in Maluti-a-Phofung─── 08:04 Tue, 13 Aug 2019
The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) is happy that all parties and independent candidates in Maluti-a-Phofung have signed a code of conduct yesterday at the Phuthaditjhaba Multipurpose Hall in Qwaqwa, Free State.
The commission's provincial spokesperson, Itumeleng Liba, said that everything went well.
Liba also revealed that the IEC has spoken to the municipality and Eskom about a possible water and electricity interruption that might take place on the day of the by-elections, and both have promised to ensure that the problems will be quickly attended to.
He further stated that 91 voting stations will be opened with an estimation of about 98 000 people expected to cast their votes. He says the registrations for the by-elections closed on 26 July but is still open for the elderly and disabled residents to apply for special votes, which will take place on the August 27.
