The two-day taxi summit came to an end yesterday, where Gauteng Premier, David Makhura, delivered a keynote address.

It came to light that the Gauteng government will spend additional millions to rebuild another failed taxi rank in Bophelong, in the Vaal. This is according to the MEC for Roads and Transport, Jacob Mamabolo, during a media briefing held in Vanderbijlpark, Gauteng.

The Bophelong taxi rank was completed in 2013 but failed following problems experienced with the infrastructure’s roof, which is too low to accommodate taxis. This is the second taxi rank in the Vaal, which also includes the infamous Vereeniging taxi rank who remains unfinished since 2013.

However, Mamabolo did not mention the exact amount the Bophelong taxi rank will cost but emphasised it is part of his provincial budget to be announced on the 29th of this month.
