This was mentioned by the Emfuleni Local Municipality mayor, Gift Moerane, during his State of the Municipality Address (SOMA) in the Vereeniging Civic Centre.
Moerane says this is an attempt to root out corruption, which is robbing people from services at the municipality. He further elaborated that the municipality will build a call centre worth R1 million to enable residents to report various problems they are faced with.
He says the municipality will release land for housing as a priority, however, illegal land grabbing will not be tolerated in the Emfuleni area. Moerane emphasised that officials from now on will be compelled by the mandate of the municipality and of the people to deliver services, adding failure to do so will result in dismissal.
