DA demands answers from City Manager | News Article

Questions are mounting as to whether the Mangaung Metro Municipality will soon establish an ombudsman to investigate complaints lodged by members of the public.

This, after the DA in the council last week laid a charge against Mangaung City Manager, Tankiso Mea, at the office of the Public Protector. The party’s Dirk Kotze told OFM News that the municipality has failed to establish this supervisory body despite having allocated funds for it.

Kotze says during a council meeting last year in May the council resolved to appoint an ombudsman that would investigate complaints lodged with the customer care unit and would assist the municipality to provide services and transparent governance to its residents.

He says despite a budget allocation of over R200 million, the ombudsman is still non-existent and more than a year since the approval to establish it, the council has not received any report from Mea on the matter hence they escalated the matter to the Office of the Public Protector to launch investigations.
