Protests flare up in Ikageng, NW─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 08:00 Wed, 26 Jun 2019
Protest action has flared up in the North West. Police spokesperson, Adele Myburgh, confirms the N12 route leading to Ikageng has been blocked by protestors with stones and burning tyres.
She warns motorists to make use of alternative routes. She says there has thus far not been any arrests and confirms that the police are keeping a very close eye on the situation. It is alleged that the protests are a build-up for the protests that broke out on Monday on the same route between Klerksdorp and Potchefstroom in the vicinity of Ikageng, allegedly due to lack of service delivery by the local Municipality.
Residents in this area have in the past accused the management of the municipality of ignoring repeated calls for better service delivery, as well as job creation.
