Seven NW cash-in-transit suspects arrested | News Article

A group of seven suspects allegedly involved in a cash-in-transit heist, in Makapanstad in the North West, are expected to appear before the Themba Magistrate Court on Friday.

This, after a Fidelity Security van was shot and robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash by armed robbers on March the 13th. The Hawks’ Hangwani Mulaudzi says it is alleged the suspects, who were travelling in two separate vehicles, shot at the security vehicle and poured it with a liquid substance, threatened to burn it and forced the security guards to exit it. The guards were reportedly ordered to open the back of the security vehicle, where a third vehicle joined in, took the undisclosed amount of money and fled the scene. Mulaudzi says preliminary investigations by the North West Serious Organised Crime Investigation team have, however, thus far revealed that the guards of the security van allegedly conspired and staged the robbery. He says of the seven suspects, three were Fidelity supervisors, three were Fidelity guards and an outsider. He says the firearms, that were allegedly said to have been taken by the robbers, were found at the scene and that investigations into a possible contravention of the Firearm Control Act against the security guards will be launched.

Jana Mafalo, Evans Mudau, Johannes Khoza, Cry Ringane, Tshepo Maluleke, Jim Moyo and Segolokoane Makalapa have been charged with theft, malicious damage to property and defeating the ends of justice.

Mulaudzi adds the group, aged between 29 and 55, remains in custody ahead of their appearance which was made last week.
