NW Education Department concerned about incidents of violence─── LUCKY NKUYANE 10:09 Fri, 15 Mar 2019
The North West Department of Education says it is troubled and concerned about the ongoing incidents of violence in schools across the province.
This as a 13-year-old girl was found with a knife in her stomach inside a toilet in Tlhabane, near Rustenburg, on Wednesday (13 March). Departmental spokesperson, Elias Malindi, tells OFM News that, according to information available at this stage, teachers were in a meeting when they were alerted by fellow pupils of the stabbing incident.
He says details of what had happened to the grade 8 pupil remains sketchy, but the department welcomes the news that the girl is now in a stable condition at a Rustenburg Hospital. Malindi says, out of respect to the victim’s family, the department is unable to name the pupil and the hospital.
Malindi says they are pleased that the girl is in a stable condition and has been placed in a general ward. The incident happened on the last day of a summit on safety in schools in Rustenburg. The summit was aimed at finding a solution to safety issues faced by pupils and teachers who continue to be victims of crimes within and outside school premises.
