The funerals of three of the four learners who died in the Hoërskool Driehoek tragedy in Vanderbijlpark, are expected to take place on Friday.

Jandré Steyn, Marli Currie, and Roydon Olckers died when a cement walkway collapsed at the school. Marnus Nagel was severely injured and passed away on Sunday.

The incident led to the deaths of these four pupils and injured more than 20 others.

On Thursday grade eight learner, Jandré Steyn, was laid to rest after a service at the River of Life Family Church in Vanderbijlpark.

News24 reported the department's spokesperson, Steve Mabona, announced the funeral arrangements of some of the pupils.

Olckers will be buried on Friday 8 February at 15:00 at the Derde Kruis congregation on the corner of Piet Retief Boulevard and Prinsloo Street in Vanderbijlpark.

A memorial service for Currie will be held at the NG south congregation at 1 Schoeman Street at 11:00 on Friday.

OFM News' Molebogeng Malebo reported the chairperson of the Hoërskool Driehoek School Governing Body, Jacques Marx, confirmed to OFM News that Nagel will also be buried on Friday.

“The first funeral, for Jandré, was held yesterday morning and it has been concluded. Marnus’ funeral will be [on Friday], but the family asked for a private ceremony and the burial will also happen on a farm outside Vanderbijlpark,” said Marx.

Meanwhile, classes at the school were suspended. The Education department’s Steve Mabona says the resolution was taken at a meeting with parents on Tuesday.

"We can confirm that the school will resume on Monday next week, just to take the learners through reintegration of the schooling environment. You will understand that these learners still need counselling,”

The Gauteng Education Department says some of the injured students have been discharged from hospitals.
