Cele slams rumours of 'racist killing' after Koffiefontein police officer's death | News Article

Minister of Police, Bheki Cele, condemns the killing of 27-year-old police officer, Vuyani March, who died in the line of duty at a farm in Koffiefontein in the Free State.

March was shot in the head and died on the scene last week while he and a few other police officers were attending to an incident at the Dassiekop farm outside of town. Speaking at March’s memorial service, which was held in the town yesterday, Cele slammed rumours stating that the man’s killing was a racist attack owing to the fact that his killer was white and he was black. "It was clear that the crime was more charged with criminality than race."

March was killed on the said farm last week while he and another police officer, George Calvert, attended to an incident at a farm where a row between two farmers took place. March, as well as two farmers, were killed in the incident, while Calvert, who was shot in the face, is still recovering in hospital.
