FS Social Development probes documents dumped in Thaba Nchu field | News Article

The Free State Department of Social Development is investigating the circumstances surrounding the thousands of confidential documents found scattered on a field in Thaba Nchu outside Bloemfontein.

Members of the Democratic Alliance (DA) in the province are reported to have stumbled across the applications, affidavits and reports during an oversight inspection at a failed waste recycling plant in the area this week.

Chief Director responsible for Child Protection at the National Office, Tshidi Maaga, tells OFM News that the provincial branch of the department will put together a report on the investigation, once complete, and present it to them. She says the report will not only provide insight into how these documents ended up in an open field, but will further look into measures that will prevent a similar situation from occurring.

OFM News previously spoke to the DA leader in the province, Patricia Kopane, who indicated that the applications and reports pertain to child abuse and negligence cases which she feels should have been considered for children’s court, as well as affidavits by women seeking temporary shelter due to factors including domestic violence.
