Moqhaka faces refuse removal backlog over shortage of vehicles | News Article

A shortage of refuse removal vehicles has placed the Moqhaka Local Municipality in the Free State in quite a predicament with garbage now piling up in the area.

Moqhaka spokesperson, Dika Kheswa, says in a statement that the municipality is currently experiencing a serious refuse removal backlog as a result of the shortage.

Kheswa says this makes it difficult for the municipality, which includes Kroonstad, Steynsrus, and Viljoenskroon, to render the service at the moment. The municipality has promised residents that refuse will also be removed on Saturday in an effort to clear the backlog.

The municipality has requested that residents in certain areas hold on to their refuse, till the municipality indicates otherwise. This doesn’t mean refuse will not be collected today, January 11, in some areas. Maokeng, Kroonstad, Kroonheuwel, Elandia, Uitsig, Correctional Services, Agricultural High School, Military Base, and Presidensia will be serviced today.
