The South African agricultural industry needs to adopt plans and strategies to tackle climate change, which is a reality in the country.
A change in weather patterns, which leads to drought or excessive rain, is not avoidable. This is according to the Minister of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development, Thoko Didiza, who told farmers at Agri SA's annual conference in Pretoria last week, innovative ways and new technology, in terms of research and developing varieties that are drought resistant, need to be in place.
Didiza referred to the Agricultural Research Council's drought-resistant maize seed that are progressing.
