Kroonstad - Thirty-three Moqhaka Local Municipality employees remain dismissed till the labour court resolves the matter. This is according to acting spokesperson Khojane Madiba.
Moqhaka, based in Kroonstad, dismissed more than 30 workers on February 17 this year after they were allegedly identified, on camera footage as forcefully removing municipal manager Simon Mqwathi, from his office. The disgruntled workers were reportedly unhappy with the task team that was investigating Mqwathi after they accused him of irregularities and called for his suspension.
Madiba says employees were served with dismissal letters.
Spokesperson for the striking employees, Morena Thebe, says their labour unions are in the process of challenging these dismissals with the labour court because they feel the correct procedures were not followed.
