Cricket South Africa has announced that names of the six teams which will be competing in the Mzansi Super League which starts next month.

Last week the sports’ governing body in South Africa announced that the Wanderers, SuperSport Park, Newlands, Kingsmead, St. Georges’ Park, and Boland Park, will be the six venues where the tournament will be played.

Monday, CSA confirmed that the competing teams will be known as the Tshwane Spartans (SuperSport Park), Jozi Stars (Wanderers), Durban Heat (Kingsmead), Cape Town Blitz (Newlands), Nelson Mandela Bay Giants (St. Georges’ Park), and Paarl Rocks (Boland Park).

Each of these six teams will also feature a Proteas marquee player, and this includes AB de Villiers, who recently retired from all forms of international cricket. De Villiers, will be representing the Tshwane Spartans in his native Pretoria.

The South African Cricketer of the Year, Kagiso Rabada, will be playing for the Jozi Stars, while the current Proteas captain, Faf du Plessis, has been assigned to the team from Paarl.

JP Duminy will play for the Cape Town Blitz, Hashim Amla for Durban Heat, and Imran Tahir for the Nelson Mandela Bay Giants.

There will be international marquee players for each team as well, and a couple of these were set to play in the T20 Global League last year.

The international players who have already been confirmed are the West Indies greats, Chris Gayle and Dwayne Bravo, as well as the English trio of Eoin Morgan, Jason Roy, and the South African-born, Dawid Malan. The Afghanistan spinner, Rasheed Khan, is another confirmed international.

CSA has received applications from 200 players to compete in the tournament, and the player draft will be taking place on Wednesday.

The Mzansi Super League starts on 16 November and the final is scheduled to be played on 16 December.
