Danie Gerber - World Rugby

The former Springbok centre, Danie Gerber, who is considered by many to be one of the greatest rugby players of all time, has become the first major sportsman in South Africa to test positive for COVID-19.

Earlier in the week, former South African swimmer, Cameron van der Burgh, convicted that he has been infected with Coronavirus some time ago. The Olympian has however been living in London since his retirement from the sport in 2019.

The 61-year old Gerber played 24 Tests for the Springboks from 1980 to 1992. During his illustrious career, he also played provincial rugby for Eastern Province, Western Province and the Free State.

In 2015 Gerber became just the eighth South African rugby player to be inducted into the World Rugby Hall of Fame.

Gerber still lives in Port Elizabeth where he played for the majority of his career.
