Case against taxi violence accused postponed─── ELSABÉ RICHARD 17:56 Mon, 17 Feb 2020
The case against eleven people who were arrested in connection with taxi violence in Brits in the North West has been postponed to Friday, 21 February 2020 for formal bail application
This, after the group, aged between 16 and 60, appeared in the local Magistrate's Court on charges of public violence.
OFM News previously reported that the twelve suspects were arrested earlier this month following taxi violence at the Behrens Taxi Rank. It is alleged four taxis were pelted with stones and damaged during the unrest.
Five men were injured and taken to a local hospital. Three were discharged shortly after receiving treatment, while one was admitted in the intensive care unit with serious head injuries and another died in hospital. At least 40 minibus taxis were damaged during the second incident.
Police are investigating cases of murder, attempted murder, public violence, malicious damage to property and possession of dangerous weapons.
