'No severe flooding expected in FS this week' | News Article

The Free State Province was struck by severe flooding in the past week as a result of heavy rainfall and thundershowers throughout the province.

In an interview with OFM News, forecaster for the South African Weather Services, Mbabhi Maliage, says this week severe floods as experienced in the past few days aren’t expected and the province can breathe a sigh of relief.

Maliage says for the province there isn’t a lot of rain expected for Monday, but there are a 30% chance of rain over certain parts of the Free State. She says no alerts have been issued for today as well as tomorrow with regard to any severe storms or rainfall. On Wednesday, a 60% chance of rain is expected over the Eastern Free State.

Taking a look at the rest of the week, from Thursday and Friday, not much is expected although a 30% chance of rainfall is predicted only for the Eastern Free State on Thursday. On Friday, the North-Western part of the province can expect a small chance of rain.

“We haven’t issued out any alert for any possible severe storms or severe weather. There may be on and off showers throughout Wednesday, but we will update you should anything else develop,” says Maliage.
