Bronville residents assisted at places of safety | News Article

Hundreds of Bronville residents in Welkom in the Free State have been moved to places of safety after they were affected by heavy rainfall yesterday.

The Mayor for the Matjhabeng Local Municipality, Nkosinjani Speelman, says more than 60 houses, as well as roads in the city, were flooded and they had to evacuate the residents to different places of safety where the municipality and other government bodies will assist with necessities such as food and blankets. He warns that the situation in the area is still bad and cautions residents who still need help to urgently get in touch with the municipality.

Speelman further warned that areas that are affected also include Thabong, Virginia, Allanridge, and Ventersburg.

Premier Sisi Ntombela has thus far declared Bronville as a disaster area. Following her visit to the city of Welkom yesterday afternoon, her office is yet to outline a plan of action on how the provincial government is going to rescue the situation.
