This is according to Roy Jankielsohn, DA Leader in the Free State Legislature, who says since his arrival in the provincial legislature in 2006 he has been asking various MEC’s of Agriculture to provide proof to the DA of successful projects implemented by the government. He says they haven't been able to show him a single successful project in the Free State. Jankielsohn is of the opinion these projects are only implemented to enrich people building the infrastructure as well as implementing agents.

His reaction comes after the Zondo Commission proceedings continued last week with testimony from former MEC of Finance in the Free State, Elzabe Rockman. She was previously the director-general in the office of the former Free State Premier Ace Magashule, before assuming the role of the head of Provincial Treasury. Rockman testified the Gupta family was known within the structures of the provincial government. She herself was asked by Magashule to meet with Rajesh Gupta in Bethlehem in July 2010. Magashule excused himself from this meeting during which Gupta proposed advertising opportunities in their soon-to-be-launched newspaper, The New Age.

Rockman also testified about the provincial government’s role in the Vrede Dairy Project that lost millions in public funds. She said the provincial government was aware of some of the challenges regarding the project but had no finer details on operational challenges as the monitoring and evaluation responsibility of the project technically remained with the contracting department, which was the Department of Agriculture in the Free State.
