In an effort by the South African Police Service (SAPS) in the Free State to curb crime, its activities will be intensified with the Safer Festive Season Operations in the Mangaung Metro, that include Bloemfontein.

The police spokesperson, Thabo Covane, tells OFM News that two foreign nationals have been arrested during a routine patrol in Nelson Mandela Drive after they failed to produce documents allowing them to be in the country.

He says on Monday 17 December 2018 two police officers spotted a suspicious vehicle, a White Nissan 1Tonner, and decided to stop the vehicle and the occupants were two males from Ethiopia who had neither a passport nor asylum permit.

Covane says the two suspected illegal immigrants tried to bribe the police officers with R950 if they were to let go free but their efforts went in vain as they were both arrested on the spot and charged with bribing police officers while executing their official duties.

Covane says the two, who identified themselves as Henok (20) and Nagesh (38), were arrested and taken to Park Road Police Station where case dockets were registered. The two are detained at the Bainsvlei Police Cells.

Meanwhile, the Cluster Commander, Brigadier Kgothatso Ramokotjo, says this proves that one cannot put a price on an honest police officer. He adds that trustworthy police officers cannot be bought at any price.
