'Despacito' to be dethroned? | News Article

'Despacito' has two new rivals that are on their way to reign as new number one foreign language hit.

With a total of 19 weeks on the global charts thus far, it is safe to say that Luis Fonsi’s ‘Despacito’ has the monopoly when it comes to its sound, format, and feel in regards with global hits at the current moment. However, if you thought that the song would be the last popular hit of its kind that gets appreciated and enjoyed around the world, then we all have made the same mistake.

Was it the start of a new music trend among Latin/Spanish artists? I go for yes. Artists such as the very well-known Enrique Iglesias, as well as J. Balvin and Willy Williams decided to give ‘Despacito’ a run for its money as they recorded and released their own hits very similar to ‘Despacito’. So let me give you a lowdown.

‘Mi Gente’ is a song that was recorded by Columbian singer J. Balvin and, believe it or not, French singer and producer Willy William and released on the 30th of June 2017. Another thing we did not know – ‘Mi Gente’ is a remix of Willy William’s song ‘Voodoo Song’ that was released two months prior to ‘Mi Gente’. The song’s music video was published on the 29th of June, and received almost three-hundred and twenty millions views to date. Reaching position 21 on the UK singles chart, and position 30 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, we can only expect it to knock ‘Despacito’ off the throne.

Enrique Iglesias, however, is also strong on its way to try and knock ‘Despacito’ off the throne. With his single ‘Subeme La Radio’ that was released on the 24th of February this year, he has a good chance of achieving just that. His music video has received a total of almost six hundred and thirty million views on YouTube thus far, and that number increased daily. Claiming the 12th position on the UK singles chart and the 90th position on the Billboard Hot 100, the battle is definitely on between these artists to be the top Latin/Spanish song of 2017.

Leave your thoughts in the comments down below on which single you think is going to reign as top dog next.
