The Jamaican sprinter, Usain Bolt, was named as the 2017 Laureus World Sportsman of the Year during the glitzy Awards in Monaco on Tuesday night.
The world record holder in the 100 and 200m sprint superstar walked away with the award for a record equaling 4th time as beat Mo Farah, Andy Murray, Cristiano Ronaldo, Stephen Curry and LeBron James to the honours.
The American gymnast Simone Biles was named as the 2017 Laureus Sportswoman of the Year in a category which included Allyson Felix, Laura Kenny, Angelique Kerber, Katie Ledecky and Elaine Thompson.
The German Formula 1 world champion, Nico Rosberg, pipped the 400m world record holder from Bloemfontein, Wayde van Niekerk, to the Laureus Breakthrough of the Year Award, while the greatest swimmer of all-time, Michael Phelps, was named as the Comeback of the Year.
The Major League Baseball team the Chicago Cubs were named as the Laureus Team of the Year for winning the World Series for the first time in 108 years.
