No arrests yet following second incident at Bfn Golf Club─── CHRISTAL-LIZE MULLER 07:37 Mon, 20 Feb 2017
Bloemfontein - No arrests have been made yet in connection with a robbery at the Bloemfontein Golf Club’s workshop at the weekend in which equipment worth thousands was stolen.
Machine parts, a Toro Greens machine used to cut the greens, other greenkeeping equipment and diesel were stolen late on Friday evening or on Saturday morning.
Free State police spokesperson, Sinah Mpakane, says a case of business robbery is being investigated.
Manager of the club, Dewald Smit, says they realised there was a break-in on Saturday when staff turned up for work at around 06:00. He says the robbers gained entrance by cutting the lock on a fence gate and removed a part of the precon at the workshop.
According to him, it was a well-planned robbery because the robbers knew exactly what equipment was in the workshop and they had to use a special vehicle to transport the stolen items. They had to gain entrance to the course through the east side and not the club’s main gate.
This is the second incident at the club this year after two golf players were threatened with a firearm and robbed of cash in broad daylight in January. The club said at the time plans were being put in place to tighten security, with daily patrols at the course.
