Cape Town fire: Eyewitness' account─── EARL COETZEE 15:28 Tue, 17 Jan 2017
Cape Town - More than 250 firefighters are working around the clock, in an attempt to put out fires which have been ravaging the Cape for several days.
A Bloemfontein stand up comedian, currently living in Cape Town, says he was among hundreds of people in the Cape who were forced to evacuate their homes last night, when it looked like a fire on the slopes of Table Mountain would engulf their homes.
Phil de Lange says he was at a performance, when his roommate called to let him know a fire which started in Deer Park at the foot of Devil's Peak was heading toward their block of flats.
The fire was brought under control before it reached their flats, but four homes were damaged.

According to the Cape Town fire department, firefighters are working to extinguish hotspots before strong winds are expected to pick up this afternoon.
Another fire in Paarl near Du Toitskloof pass is still raging on, having already destroyed more than 1 000 hectares.
