Bloemfontein’s leading golfer, Dean Burmester, is feeling quietly confident ahead of the Sunshine Tour’s Eye of Africa PGA Championship.

Burmester has experienced somewhat of a purple patch this season with two top-ten finishes on the European Tour, as well as a tie for 17th at the co-sanctioned Alfred Dunhill Championship.

Furthermore, the 27-year-old narrowly missed out on the title last year after losing to Jaco van Zyl on the second play-off hole.

Burmester told OFM Sport that he is happy with his form at the moment and hopes to bring the title to the Free State.

“I’m excited to be back home and play in South Africa, I had a good run in Europe and the deserts.

“I feel my game is in a good place. I’m excited for the Eye of Africa PGA, I played in the pro-am yesterday (Tuesday) and the course really is in an unbelievably good condition.

“Hats off to everybody that has been involved with that because it is just streaks ahead of what it has been in the past.

“Losing to Jaco van Zyl in the play-off last year has boosted me to go one better this year and hopefully I can bring the PGA back home to the Free State.

Van Zyl himself has done well on the European Tour but missed his maiden tour victory after losing the Qatar Masters in a play-off.

The Eye of Africa PGA Championship tees off on Thursday morning at the Glenvista Golf Club.
