World number 4 Xander Schauffele will start his third round at the Wells Fargo Championship with a four-stroke lead after posting four-under 67 on Friday.
The American started the day three ahead and extended his advantage with five birdies. Australia’s Jason Day carded six birdies and two bogeys to move into second place on seven under, alongside Rory McIlroy, who still hopes to win his fourth Wells Fargo Championship title.
Taylor Moore and Sungjae Im shares fourth place with six-under.
South Africa’s Christiaan Bezuidenhout shares 13th with Americans Max Homa, Justin Thomas, Grayson Murray, as well as Sepp Straka and Australia’s Cameron Davis. They are all at thee-under.
Play was suspended for an hour because of heavy rain and lightning, after most of the leaders had completed their rounds.
The Wells Fargo Championship is generally viewed as the last chance for players to prepare for the PGA Championships, which takes place next week.
