Shandor Potgieter’s Bio
For those who have not yet had the pleasure of crossing paths with one of Central SA’s most favourite sons, here’s a quick catch up…
Born in Phalaborwa on 18 April 1991, Shandor Potgieter grew up in Bloemfontein, Gonubi and Stellenbosch. While enrolled at the University of the Free State, he embarked on a music career and established the multi award-winning band, ‘Oros in ’n lang glas’.
While crisscrossing the country with the band, he also frequented the OFM studios ahead of performances. This eventually resulted in a tour of the region supported by OFM. During this time he also spent some time at the station as a guest presenter and it was ‘over’ when the radio bug bit.
This proud father is married to his loving wife, Danya, who forgives his many hours of travelling. Shandor cherishes the moments that he gets to spend with friends and family either at home or exploring the beauty of South Africa.
With that being said, no coach potato-ing is allowed as this muso also loves running, adventuring, camping and getting up to some ‘crazy’, like fighting professional wrestlers, boxing matches and taking on ultra-marathons for a good cause. Shandor proudly supports Child Welfare and Childline in the Free State and the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA).
For Shandor, radio allows you to be anything and everything and it is ‘the most fun you will ever have’. He loves that each day is different and that sometimes never in your wildest dreams have you imagined that particular guest would be sitting across from you or from where you will be broadcasting. Radio can also empower people and improve their lives. And this is why Shandor gets up and gives 110% with everything he does.
Margaret Whitfield's Bio
Born and raised on a farm near Viljoenskroon in the Free State, Margaret attended Eunice high school and went on to complete an LLB at the University of the Free State. Her journey through several legal avenues led her to specialise in Liquor Law.
During her varsity and article years, DM Magpie did some club DJing and spinning the decks stuck. Now you’ll find her setting the mood for parties and heating up the dance floor at weddings of which she does 25 to 30 a year!
Lockdown didn’t have her resting on her laurels though, her love for English compelled her to complete a TEFL course to keep busy.
One would not guess that Margaret is a newbie when it comes to radio, maybe proof that all the pretend shows she used to record in her room as a child paid off.
She loves how the medium connects people and hopes to bring across a fresh and honest perspective coupled with some good humour.
When she’s not on the ones and tows, dotting i’s, crossing t’s, or learning new skills, Margaret loves spending time with her Dachshund/Yorkie named ‘Guiness’. She adores finding and listening to new music, hanging out with friends, meeting interesting people and observing society, good wine and coffee in hand.
Small wonder then her favourite quote is from Abraham Lincoln, “Whatever you are, be a good one.”
John Walland's Bio
