The Suzuki Griquas secured a home final in the SA Cup after convincingly beating the Toyota Cheetahs 39-17 win at Shimla Park in Bloemfontein on Friday night.

In what was Ruan Pienaar’s swansong, his team couldn’t quite produce the goods against a very well-oiled and unbeaten Griquas machine.

The Griquas led the match 15-10 at half time following tries by Janco Uys and Cameron Hufke, while Daniel Kasende managed to dot down for the Currie Cup champions.

The Griquas started the second stanza much stronger with Sako Makata and the captain Stephan Smit scoring tries, while George Whitehead landed a monster drop goal.

With ten minutes remaining on the clock, Rewan Kruger, managed to score the Cheetahs second try as they upped the pace of the game somewhat, but this was way too little, too late.

The Griquas fullback, Hufke, would have the last say by scoring an intercept try on the stroke of full time.
